1. Robert Hooke (1665)

Pada masa yang sama dengan Robert Hooke. Antony Van Leeuwenhoek dengan mikroskop buatannya sendiri berhasil mengamati spermatozoid, khamir bersel tunggal, sel darah merah, basil dan protozoa. Pada salah satu surat yang dikirimkan Antony Van Leeuwenhoek kepada Royal Society (Sebuah perkumpulan ilmiah Inggris) menggambarkan adanya sesuatu yang bergerak dalam air liur, yang disebutnya dengan diertjen/dierken yang artinya hewan kecil yang diyakini sebagai bakteri.

3. Marcello Malpighi (1675-1679)

Dia menjabarkan unit penyusun tumbuhan yang disebutnya Utricle (Kantong kecil), dimana setiap rongga tersebut berisi cairan serta dikelilingi dinding yg kokoh.

4. Felix Fontana (1781)

Felix Fontana merupakan orang pertama yang menemukan inti sel pada sel hewan. dan ia juga menggambarkan adanya anak inti atau disebut nukleolus didalam inti (nukleus).

5. Rene Dutrochet (1824)

Menurutnya semua organ jaringan organ tumbuhan tersusun atas sel-sel dan demikian juga dengan jaringan pada hewan.

6. Francois Vincent Raspail (1825)

Menurut Raspail setiap sel berasal dari sel sebelumnya yang telah ada.

7. Hanstein (1880) :

Menurut Hanstein Sel merupakan kantong yang berisi organel.

8. Lorenz Oken (1805)

Menurutnya smua organisme hidup berasal dari dan tersusun atas sel-sel.

Merupakan orang pertama yang menjabarkan bahwa nukleus yakni bagian dari sel hidup.
